What it’s like

An indoor skatepark for open sessions, lessons and skate parties, with everyone from five-year-olds to grown-ups on the ramps.

Skateboards and scooters are the whole point here. There are open skate times for anyone who just wants to turn up and drop in, plus lessons if your kid has never stood on a board before and needs someone other than you shouting encouragement. The site says they've had five-year-olds through to almost fifty-year-olds using the park, and pre-school groups are welcome too, so a wobbly first-timer isn't out of place next to someone doing tricks.

Private hire is where it gets more structured. You get 1 or 2 hours for a group, up to 15 children on skateboards and scooters combined, or a smaller group of 8 if you want a lesson included. It starts from £55 for the hour, which feels fair for a party where nobody's fighting over whose turn it is on the ramp. The catch is you need to book at least two weeks ahead and pay in advance, so this isn't one for a last-minute Saturday whim.

There's no hot food on site, just soft drinks, coffee and snacks, though pizza delivery is an option or you can bring your own. Winter private hire slots are tighter too, limited to Tuesday evenings or weekend afternoons, with an extra Thursday slot opening up in summer. Parking's sorted either way: there's an undercover car park at Friars Walk that drops to £1.50 after 6pm, and the train station is a ten-minute walk if you fancy leaving the car at home.

Plan your visit

What ages is it suitable for?

They say they've had five-year-olds up to almost fifty-year-olds skating there, and pre-school groups are welcome as well.

Do we need to book a party in advance?

Private hire needs booking at least two weeks ahead, with payment upfront, so this isn't a spontaneous booking.

How much does a party cost?

From £55 for an hour of private hire, with a two-hour option too. You can add a lesson for a smaller group.

Is there food there?

No hot food, but they sell soft drinks, coffee and snacks. Pizza delivery is an option or bring your own.

Where do we park?

There's an undercover car park at Friars Walk, £1.50 after 6pm, and the Kingsway Centre car park nearby works out cheaper for longer stays.
