What it’s like

Roller skating, padel, netball and five-a-side under one roof, with a football party package for the birthday crowd.

This is a proper sports hub rather than a single activity, so what you actually do depends on which door you walk through. There's Wales' only purpose-built indoor roller rink, six indoor padel courts, seven netball courts spread across the sites, two basketball courts and three futsal courts with a sprung PU finish. If you've got a seven-year-old who wants to skate and a partner who fancies padel, you could plausibly do both in the same afternoon.

Football parties are the obvious pick for a birthday: £110 gets up to 16 children a coached hour on the indoor 2G, plus a certificate and medal each, which covers the "what do we actually do" problem most party venues leave you to solve yourself. Kids need to be five or over for that one. Walking netball runs Monday evenings for £3 a head if that's more your pace than anyone else's in the family.

Padel is booked through an app rather than by calling up, and it isn't cheap to have a go, £26 an hour or £39 for 90 minutes, plus racket and ball hire on top if you haven't brought your own. Court hire generally sits in the £40 to £53 an hour bracket across netball, five-a-side and the roller rink, so this reads more like a place you book a slot at than one you turn up to and wander round.

Café Central is on site every day, though the site is upfront that its hours shift with how busy things get, and they'll cater for parties too. Changing Places facilities are listed, which is worth knowing if you need fully accessible changing for a family member.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

Depends what you're doing. Padel starts at £26 an hour, court hire for netball or five-a-side runs £40 to £53 an hour, and walking netball is £3 a person.

How do we book?

Padel courts go through an app called Playtomic. Other courts and parties you'd sort directly with the venue.

What does the football birthday party include?

£110 covers up to 16 children for a one-hour coached session on the indoor 2G, with a certificate and medal each and invitations included.

How old do kids need to be for a party?

The football party is for children aged 5 and up.

Is there food on site?

Café Central is open every day, though its hours move around depending on how busy the place is. They cater for parties too.

Can we just turn up and skate?

The roller rink is bookable by the hour like the other courts, so it's a hire slot rather than a drop-in session.

What sports can we actually do there?

Roller skating, padel, netball, basketball, futsal and football, across the different House of Sport sites.

Is walking netball only for adults?

It runs Monday evenings from 6 to 7pm at £3 a person, aimed at a gentler pace than the main netball courts.

Is there anywhere accessible to change?

Changing Places facilities are available on site.

Do we need our own padel gear?

No, rackets are £1.50 each and balls are £6 for three if you turn up without any.
