What it’s like

A community hall you can hire for a party, rehearsal or event, with a vegan café and bakery on site.

This is a hire venue rather than a day out with a fixed programme, so what you actually do there depends on what you book. Community groups, private parties and rehearsals all use the space, and you can bring your own equipment as long as you flag it on the booking form first. There's a kitchen you can add to your booking too, which is handy if you're planning anything with food beyond a few packets of crisps and a birthday cake.

The building opens early and stays open late, from 9am through to 11pm most days, which gives you room to book around nap times or evening slots without much of a squeeze. Decorations are fine, though they're strict about nails and tacks on the walls, and you'll need to take everything down again before you leave. Alcohol is a faff if you're planning a private party: it's not allowed for those, though organised public events can sometimes get a bar sorted.

Money-wise, a deposit locks in your slot and the rest is due a week before you turn up, so it's not something you can book on a whim the night before. Go over your booked time and there are late fees, so build in proper time for setting up and clearing away rather than cutting it fine.

On site there's Aubergine Café, a vegan spot open Wednesday to Sunday mornings into the afternoon, plus Riverside Sourdough bakery if you fancy bread with your event rather than just squash and biscuits. There's no dedicated car park. Access is decent at ground level, with ramps and wide double doors into the main halls, but anything upstairs is stairs only.

Plan your visit

Can we look round before booking?

You can arrange a viewing by appointment, so get in touch first to see the space before you commit to anything.

Is there parking?

Not on site. You're looking at local streets or getting there by public transport, which the venue says is well served.

Can we bring our own food or equipment?

Both are fine. Just tell them on the booking form if you're bringing equipment, and there's a kitchen you can hire alongside the hall if you need it.

What about payment and deposits?

A deposit secures your date, then the full fee is due seven days before you turn up. Repeat bookings go through invoice, paid by card or BACs.

Can we have alcohol at our event?

Not for a private party. Public events organised through the venue can sometimes run a bar.
