New House Farm Shop
ENTRY

WHERE
Horsham
What it’s like
A farm shop and tea room with pick-your-own strawberries in season, plus a proper cream tea to finish off.
The main event here is the strawberry picking, though it only runs for a window each year, usually kicking off around mid June depending on how the weather's behaved. Keep an eye on the website closer to the time, as they post updates when the fields are ready and even put signs out on the local roads so you don't miss it. Outside of that window, it's the farm shop and tea room doing the work, and it's worth the visit for the tea room alone.
The cream tea is the thing to order: £6.25 gets you a pot of tea and a warm scone with clotted cream and jam, which feels like a fair price for a sit-down treat after a morning in the fields. The tea room also does locally baked cakes, sandwiches, breakfasts and ploughman's, and they've thought about dietary needs too, with gluten free bread and cakes on request and soya milk for the dairy free among you. Just don't expect a gluten free kitchen; they're upfront that cross-contamination is possible.
Dogs can't come inside the shop or tea room unless they're service animals, but they're welcome outside on the patio and grass area as long as they're on a lead. There's a ramp into both the shop and tea room, disabled parking and a disabled toilet, so wheelchair access has clearly been thought through.
If you're planning around the strawberries specifically, treat the mid June estimate as a rough guide rather than a fixed date. Nature doesn't read calendars, and the site says the picking dates shift year to year depending on how the crop's coming along.
