What it’s like

Pick your own seasonal fruit and veg in summer, then browse a shop growing over 40 crops and a café doing proper cooked lunches.

This one's less about a big day out and more about filling a basket. Through the summer months you can head out and pick your own produce, whatever's ready that week, and the rest of the year the farm shop itself is the draw, stocked with more than 40 crops grown on site. It's a slower kind of visit than a big attraction, but there's something satisfying about walking out with veg you've actually picked yourself.

Kids old enough to understand "don't squash the strawberries" will get the most out of the PYO bit. Younger ones will probably be happier trailing round the shop, though there's no dedicated play area here, so don't expect swings or a barn full of animals to keep them busy. It's a food-first place, and the café backs that up with breakfasts, lunches and cakes made from scratch, plus a kids' menu if they're not feeling adventurous.

The café keeps slightly shorter hours than the shop, Tuesday to Saturday from 9 till 4, and Sunday from 10 till 4, with last food orders an hour before closing. The shop itself opens earlier and a touch later most days, so you could pop in for produce even if you've missed lunch. There's a deli counter too, useful if you just want a sandwich and coffee to take away rather than sitting down for a full meal.

It won't take you all day, but it's the sort of stop that fits neatly either side of something else, or works on its own if you fancy a proper cooked lunch and a wander round a farm shop that grows most of what it sells.

Plan your visit

Can the kids pick their own fruit and veg?

Yes, through the summer months there's pick-your-own produce out in the fields. Outside of that season it's just the shop and café.

Is there anything else for kids to do besides the shop and café?

Not really, this isn't a play-area kind of place. It's more about the produce and the food than entertainment.

What are the opening hours?

The farm shop's open 8:30 till 5:30 Monday to Saturday, and 10 till 4 on Sundays. The café's a bit shorter, 9 till 4 Tuesday to Saturday and 10 till 4 on Sundays.

What food is on offer?

The café does breakfasts, lunches and cakes made from scratch, with a kids' menu too. There's also a deli for takeaway sandwiches, rolls and coffee if you're not stopping to sit down.
