What it’s like

Outdoor go-karting from age 8, with proper competitive racing once your kid hits 14.

This is proper outdoor karting, not the indoor five-minute-blast sort. Kids can get behind the wheel from age 8, though anyone under 125cm is turned away at the barrier regardless of age, so measure before you promise anything. Drivers aged 8 to 16 count as juniors, but competitive on-track sessions and championship events are for 14 and up only, so a keen 10-year-old will be racing for fun and lap times rather than a podium.

There's a Junior Race School if your child wants to get quicker rather than just turn up and drive, and arrive-and-drive sessions for anyone who fancies a go without committing to a course. The site is open every day, weekdays and Sundays from 1pm, Saturdays from 9am, and you do need to book ahead rather than just rock up. It sits within the Adventure Sports outdoor activity site, so there's other stuff going on around it if you want to make a day of it.

Worth knowing this is proper outdoor racing, so sessions run in all weather. Waterproofs might be a better bet than sunglasses on a British Saturday morning. If you're after a birthday party, they do them for a group of 8 drivers, which is a decent number for a party without it turning into crowd control.

The one clear price on offer is the Unlimited Karting Night at £45, but that's for over-14s only and runs 5.30pm to 8.30pm.

Plan your visit

How old does my child need to be to drive?

From 8 years old, but they also need to be at least 125cm tall to get in a kart. Drivers aged 8 to 16 are classed as juniors.

Can any age race competitively?

No, only drivers 14 and over can take part in competitive on-track sessions and championship events. Younger juniors can still drive and improve their lap times through arrive and drive sessions or the Junior Race School.

Do we need to book ahead?

Booking is required, you can't just turn up. Weekday and Sunday sessions start from 1pm, Saturdays from 9am.

What happens if it rains?

Sessions run in all weather since it's an outdoor track, so bring something waterproof rather than hoping for sunshine.

Do you do birthday parties?

They run children's birthday parties with 8 drivers.
