What it’s like

A university sports centre with a family-friendly pool, a gym, outdoor pitches and padel courts to hire.

The pool's the obvious starting point for a family visit, with a shallow end at 0.9m so smaller swimmers can still touch the bottom, and a family changing room so you're not wrestling with cubicles built for one. A child aged 5 to 15 gets in for £3.50, adults £5, and if grandparents are along it's £4 for the over-60s.

Beyond the pool there's a gym if the grown-ups fancy a session while the kids are swimming, plus outdoor sports pitches and padel courts you can hire. It's not a soft play or an attraction with a queue for the big slide, it's a proper sports centre, so the appeal is more "let's swim and then have a knock about" than a day built around one big thing.

Opening hours are generous on weekdays, 6:30am to 10pm, dropping to 8am-5pm at weekends, so there's flexibility if you're working around school runs or a Saturday morning swim before the shops get busy. If you're going regularly rather than just once, the monthly memberships start from £27.99 for NHS and armed forces, with a family membership at £69.99 a month, which only makes sense if you'll actually use it more than a handful of times.

The site is wheelchair accessible and there are toilets on site, which covers the basics if you're planning to make a morning of it.

Is there more to do than swimming?

Yes, there's a gym, outdoor sports pitches and padel courts you can hire.
