What it’s like
Fly fishing for rainbow and brown trout on a day ticket, with catch-and-release or catch-and-take sessions from four hours.
This is a fly fishing water, rainbow trout, brown trout, blue trout, sparctic char and tiger trout, and the rules make that clear from the off. Fly only, barbed hooks aren't allowed and you'll need your own landing net, so it's not a turn-up-with-a-rod-and-a-tin-of-maggots kind of session. If you or your teenager already fly fish, or you're keen to learn properly, that's the appeal rather than the catch.
You choose between sporting tickets, where everything goes back, and catch-and-take tickets where you keep a set number of fish. Sessions run from four hours up to a full day, and the pricing scales with time: £15 for four hours sporting, up to £30 for a full day, or £25 to £45 if you want to take fish home. There's a junior sporting rate too, £11 for four hours if you're 16 or under, which makes it a reasonable half-day out for a younger angler rather than an adult-only commitment.
The catch rules are specific enough to read twice before you go. Brown trout, sparctic char and tiger trout have to go back regardless of ticket type, as does anything over 5lb, and there's a size limit on the flies you can use. None of this is a problem if fishing is the plan for the day, it just means this isn't a spontaneous dabble, you want to know the rules before you cast off.
