What it’s like

Panto, kids' theatre shows and writing workshops for older children under one roof in Mansfield.

This is a proper theatre, not a soft play with a stage bolted on. Pantomime's the big draw, along with children's theatre shows through the year, and there's a writing workshop for the 7 to 16 crowd if your child's more into making stories than watching them. That workshop age range is the only firm age steer the venue gives, so use your own judgement for younger ones and a panto matinee.

Box office hours are a bit fiddly. Monday it's 10am to 1pm, Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm, and at weekends the doors only open an hour before the show. That means no popping in on a Saturday afternoon on the off chance, you're booking ahead or queuing right before curtain up.

Wheelchair access needs a bit of planning. There are seven spaces in the Stalls with room for a walking partner alongside, and a lift up to the balcony, but no wheelchair spaces up there at all. You can't book a wheelchair space online, it has to go through the box office directly, and mobility scooters can't get into the auditorium itself. Foyer parking for scooters is limited too, so that's one to sort out well before the day.

Assistance dogs are welcome and the theatre will put water out if you flag it when booking. Beyond that the site doesn't say much about food or drink on site, so I wouldn't bank on a big pre-show meal there.

Plan your visit

How do we book tickets?

There's no online booking link listed, so it's a box office job. That's also the only way to sort wheelchair spaces.

What age is it suitable for?

No general age guide is given, though the writing workshops are pitched at 7 to 16 year olds. For panto and shows, go with your own sense of your child.

Is it wheelchair accessible?

Seven wheelchair spaces in the Stalls, plus lift access to the balcony, but no wheelchair spaces up there. Mobility scooters can't get into the auditorium, so you'll want to plan around that.

Can we bring a dog?

Assistance dogs are welcome and water's provided if you mention it when booking.

What are the opening hours?

Monday 10am to 1pm, Tuesday to Friday 10am to 4pm. Saturday and Sunday the box office opens an hour before whatever's on.
