Acorn Theatre, Worksop
WHERE
Worksop
What it’s like
A proper theatre in Worksop doing pantomime and family shows, with a bar and kiosk to keep everyone going.
This is the place for panto season and family theatre shows rather than soft play or animals, so it suits kids who can sit through a performance and get swept up in it. The site lists family-friendly live theatre and pantomime as the main draw, which means the big afternoon out here is watching something together rather than running about.
Getting in is straightforward if you know where to park. Queen Street Car Park is right opposite, and it's free after 6pm, on Sundays and on Bank Holidays, so an evening show works out cheaper on parking than a matinee. If you're coming by train, Worksop Station is about ten minutes on foot, which is handy if you don't fancy driving into town.
Access has clearly been thought through. The venue is fully accessible from the front door, with a lift and non-tiered seating for wheelchair users, plus disabled spaces. Worth knowing that rows E to P are tiered and not suitable if you need a wheelchair.
For food and drink there's a licensed bar doing beers, wines, spirits and soft drinks, and a kiosk for tea, coffee, ice cream and sweets. Nothing that reads like a proper meal, so if your lot get hangry mid-show it might be worth feeding them before you arrive.
