What it’s like
Have a go at proper axe throwing with an instructor talking you through it, for ages 10 and up.
You get a 90 minute session on a range with an instructor who runs a safety demo before anyone picks up an axe, then it's just you, a target and a surprising amount of satisfaction when the blade actually sticks. Kids from 10 can throw, but anyone under 18 needs an adult with them the whole time, so this is one for a family group rather than dropping the kids off.
There are four ranges and they'll only put up to 6 people on each, so a bigger group or a birthday party needs more than one booked. Adults are £22, under 18s £16, and students get £19 midweek with ID, which stings a bit for a shoe-and-throw session but the instruction is part of what you're paying for. Booking's required, there's no walking in off the street.
Closed toe shoes are non-negotiable and heels are out, so factor that into what everyone's wearing on the day. Parking on site at St Catherine's Park is free but capped at 3 hours, which is more than enough for the session with a bit of spare time either side. The venue's step free with an accessible toilet, and they can sort accessible parking if you ask in advance.
Worth flagging that music plays in the venue throughout, which is fine for most but something to know if anyone in your group finds that grating during a focused activity like this.
