What it’s like

Free to walk in, then you pay in tokens for the rides, from gentle waltzers to a 215-foot thrill tower.

There's no entry fee here, you only pay for what you ride, and the site keeps it simple with tokens rather than a card you tap at every gate. Ten quid gets you 13 tokens, and it climbs from there up to 80 tokens for £50 if you're settling in for the day with a few kids in tow. It's worth working out roughly what you'll ride before you queue at the token booth, because the bigger rides eat tokens faster than the little ones.

For younger children there are the classics: waltzers, dodgems, the caterpillar coaster, plus fairground games and a formula racetrack to burn a few tokens on without the queue for the big stuff. Older kids and braver adults will be angling for Aerospace, a 215-foot ride that hits 75mph, though there's a 1.4m height requirement so check that before you promise a five-year-old a go. Top Scan, Freak Out and High Altitude all spin or rotate in different ways, so if anyone in your group gets travel sick, maybe let them watch that one from the ground.

It's an outdoor park, so opening hours move with the weather, and it's worth having a plan B if the forecast looks grim. On weekdays it opens at 3pm, weekends and school holidays it's open from 11am, which gives you a proper stretch of the day if you're making a trip of it. Food stalls do the seaside staples, fish and chips, ice cream, candyfloss, plus pizza, burgers and Greek gyros if chips alone won't cut it.

There's no booking link, so this is a turn up and see how it looks kind of visit rather than something to plan around a fixed slot. That suits a seaside day where the plan might change with the tide or the clouds anyway.
