What it’s like

Rafting, tubing and body boarding on a man-made white water course, built for kids six and up who don't mind getting soaked.

This is the place for white water rafting, family tubing, stand up paddleboarding, kayaking and gorge walking on an artificial rapids course, plus a climbing wall if you fancy staying dry for a bit. It's aimed squarely at kids who are old enough to handle moving water: the minimum age is 6, and there are height minimums too, 107cm for the Indoor Wave and the climbing wall, 132cm for Air Trail (or 107cm if an adult goes with them).

Sessions run 90 minutes, but don't let that fool you into thinking it's all splashing about. Half an hour of that is kitting up and the safety briefing, so you get roughly an hour of actual activity. The Indoor Wave, where you body or knee board down the rapids, is £35, which feels steep until you remember you're renting a genuinely engineered white water course rather than a paddling pool.

Booking is compulsory for everything here and you can't just turn up hoping for a spare slot, so sort it online before you go. They also want you there 10 minutes early to check in and confirm your disclaimers, which is worth remembering with kids who take their time getting ready. It's cashless throughout, but the lockers still run on £1 coins, an odd combination that catches people out, so bring change even though you won't need cash anywhere else.

There's no café onsite, so if you're planning a full day of paddling and climbing, sort food before you arrive or after you leave. The venue sits in the International Sports Village, about a 10 minute drive from Cardiff city centre, and they do birthday parties, group bookings and school visits if you're after something bigger than a single family session.

Plan your visit

How old do kids need to be?

Six and up for the activities generally. Indoor Wave and the climbing wall need a minimum height of 107cm, and Air Trail needs 132cm unless an adult is with them, in which case 107cm is fine.

Do we need to book ahead?

Booking is required for everything here, done online through their booking button. There's no turning up on the day and hoping for a slot.

How much does it cost?

The Indoor Wave session is £35. Other activities aren't priced here but the same booking system applies to all of them.

How long is a session?

90 minutes in total, though 30 of those minutes are kitting up and the safety briefing, so you get about an hour of the actual activity.

Is there food on site?

No café on site, so eat before you arrive or plan to grab something afterwards.

What do we need to bring?

A £1 coin for the lockers is essential even though the venue itself is cashless. Changing rooms and showers are provided.

Do you do birthday parties or group visits?

They offer birthday parties, group bookings and school visits alongside the standard sessions.
