What it’s like
A free patch of woodland in Reading where kids can wander off the path and just explore.
There's no ticket booth here and no set route. It's woodland, and what you do with it is up to you: follow a trail, poke about under the trees, see what your kids notice that you wouldn't have. That's the whole appeal, and it's also the catch if you're after climbing frames or a café at the end of it. There isn't one listed, so this is a bring-your-own-snacks kind of visit.
Because it's free and there's no booking, you can turn up whenever suits and leave whenever you've had enough. That flexibility is worth more than it sounds on a day when you don't know if you've got twenty minutes or two hours in you. No set opening hours means you're not racing a closing time either.
It won't suit everyone. If your kids need a slide to point at or a signposted challenge to complete, plain woodland can feel a bit thin. But for wandering, spotting things, and letting a walk take as long as it takes, it does the job without costing you anything.
Plan your visit
Is it free to visit?
Yes, there's no entry charge.
Do we need to book?
There's no booking link and nothing to reserve. You just turn up.
What is there for kids to actually do?
It's woodland exploring rather than set attractions, so it suits kids happy to wander, spot things and make their own game of it.
Is there a café or shop on site?
Nothing's listed, so it's worth packing your own drinks and snacks before you go.
