What it’s like

Free rhymetime sessions for babies and toddlers, plus a quiet spot with wifi if you just need somewhere to sit and browse.

Rhymetime is the main reason to plan a visit here with a small one in tow. It's a session of songs, rhymes and group participation aimed at babies and young children, and you'll need to book ahead by phone rather than just turning up, since spaces go on a first come basis.

Opening hours are the sort of pattern you'll want to screenshot rather than remember. Monday's a full day, Tuesday's just the morning, Wednesday's closed altogether, and Thursday doesn't open till 1pm. Saturday mornings are your best bet if the week's got away from you, with a 10am to 3pm slot that doesn't need working around school runs.

There's wifi if you want to sit with a coffee and let your toddler pull books off the shelf while you answer emails, and everything's free to get in. Christmas and Easter hours shift about, so they post updates on their Twitter and Facebook rather than keeping the standard hours over holidays.

It won't fill an afternoon the way a soft play or a farm might, but for a rainy Tuesday morning with a baby who needs songs and other small humans to look at, it does the job without costing you anything.
