What it’s like

Fifteen-minute karting sessions on a proper race circuit, with a Sunday youth club for racers aged 8 and up.

This is petrol-head territory rather than a bit of soft play with wheels. Drivers get onto the track for 15-minute sessions, running on the hour, twenty past and twenty to, all day. You have to be 8 or over and at least 134cm to drive, and even then the site is honest that arm or leg length can rule some kids out, so if you're unsure it's worth ringing to test fit before you commit to a session.

The bit worth knowing before you turn up: you need to be on site 45 minutes ahead of your track time, and they'll dock your session if you're not. That's a proper chunk of a morning gone before a wheel's even turned, so factor it in rather than cutting it fine. Sessions get booked out months ahead on the popular days, so this isn't one to leave until the week before.

Sundays bring Youth Club racing for the 8-plus crowd, which is the obvious next step once your kid's had a couple of goes and wants to race properly rather than just lap. Under-16s don't get to join the adult grand prix events, since those run on adult-sized karts with race rules that the site says younger drivers tend to struggle with, but the youth club is built exactly for that gap.

Rain doesn't shut the place automatically. They hand out shower suits and will still run wet weather tuition, though they do suggest bringing a change of clothes, and heavy rain for several hours can close the circuit and push your booking to another day. Birthday parties get exclusive track use with medals and sweets for 4 to 8 drivers, all 8 or over, which makes for a proper racing party rather than a token karting slot squeezed between the cake and the presents.

Plan your visit

Do we need to book in advance?

Yes, you have to call and book, and some days fill up months ahead. If your total booking comes to over £100 they may ask for a 20% deposit.

How old do kids need to be to kart?

Drivers must be 8 or older and at least 134cm tall. Even then, arm or leg length can affect whether a child can safely kart, so it's worth calling to test fit them in a cadet kart first.

What happens if it rains?

They supply shower suits and will still try to run your session with some wet weather tuition. Heavy rain over several hours can shut the circuit and your booking gets rearranged.

What should we wear?

Sensible shoes that fully enclose the foot. No flip flops, crocs, open toes or high heels.

Can teenagers race in the main events?

Under-16s aren't allowed in the grand prix style race events because those use adult-sized karts and full race rules. The Sunday Youth Club is built for younger drivers to race against others their own age instead.
