What it’s like
Free medieval art on display in a historic church, with brass-rubbing to have a go at and a garden to sit in afterwards.
Getting in is free, and the main thing to do beyond looking at the medieval art itself is the brass-rubbing. They've got a collection of replica tomb brasses set up for it, materials provided, and you take the finished picture home. There's a suggested donation of £4 for that, which feels fair given it's the one hands-on bit in an otherwise look-don't-touch kind of place.
Beyond the brasses there are the exhibitions and displays to wander round, themed workshops running for families and individuals, and a garden if anyone needs a break from being indoors. It's all housed in one building, so it's not a long visit unless a workshop is on, but it's an easy one to fit into a Saturday morning without much planning.
Opening hours are short and worth pinning down before you go: Saturdays 10 to 4, Sundays 1 to 4 only. The site says it's generally open every weekend from March to October, so this isn't a year-round fallback, more a fair-weather half-day.
