What it’s like
Wander among nearly 30 real aircraft outdoors and climb inside a Vulcan Bomber cockpit if you meet the height limit.
This is an outdoor aircraft park rather than a gallery, so you're walking between nearly 30 planes and cockpit sections rather than reading labels indoors. There's a quiz or treasure hunt tailored by age, aircraft identification sheets to work through, and table-top activities aimed at primary school age children, so a seven or eight-year-old with a clipboard will happily disappear for a couple of hours.
The big draw is getting inside the aircraft. Tours of the Avro Vulcan Bomber, the Hawker Siddeley Nimrod or the Avro RJ85 run subject to availability, and cost a bit extra on top of admission, £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children. Worth knowing before you queue up though: the Vulcan has a 1.2m height minimum and you get up via staggered ladders.
Entry itself is £10 for adults, £5 for children aged 6 to 16, with under-5s free, and a family ticket covering two adults and up to three children comes to £28. That's a fair chunk for a day out, though the annual family pass at £45 makes sense if you reckon on coming back. The site is outdoors and the surfaces are grass and gravel rather than tarmac, so buggy wheels and best trainers rather than best shoes.
There's a tea room on site for when everyone's had enough of the wind, and the car park is free. Last admission is an hour before closing, and hours shift a fair bit between summer and winter.
