What it’s like

Free woodland trails, a play area and a sensory garden, with all-day parking for £2.50.

Free to get into, and that's the main appeal here. You wander the waymarked trails through the woods, let the kids loose in the play area, and there's a sensory garden if you want something a bit calmer than a straight walk. Bring a picnic and you've got a whole morning or afternoon sorted without spending much beyond parking.

That parking is £2.50 for the whole day, paid by cash, card or the council's app. Worth knowing they don't hold change on site, so if you're paying in coins bring the right money or just tap your card. On event days the car park can fill up, so turn up earlier if you know something's on.

There's no need to book, which makes it an easy one to fit in on a whim if the weather looks decent. A café's on site for a coffee or a snack, and toilets are there too. Dogs are welcome as long as they're kept under control and you use the bins provided, so it works as well for a dog walk as it does for a family outing.

One thing to flag: mobile signal is patchy in the park, so don't rely on your phone for maps once you're deep in the trails. It's a small trade-off for a proper stretch of woodland that doesn't cost you anything to walk through.
