What it’s like

Two Saturday sessions of roller skating with helpers on hand, £6 in and £2 for skate hire, cash only.

Skating's the whole point here, not a side attraction bolted onto something else. There are experienced skating helpers on the floor if you or the kids are wobbly, which takes the edge off the first ten minutes when nobody trusts their own feet yet.

Saturdays only, and there are two sessions: 5:30 to 7pm, then 7:30 to 9pm, each an hour and a half. That's a decent stretch of skating for six quid, and skate hire's another £2 if you haven't got your own. No booking, you just turn up and queue, first come first served, which is either refreshingly simple or a faff depending on how much you enjoy queuing on a Saturday teatime.

One thing to actually plan around: it's cash only. Card machines being what they are these days, that catches people out, so get to a cashpoint before you head over rather than discovering it at the door. Parking on site is ample though, so that bit at least isn't a worry.

Sessions run most Saturdays right through the year, but the site's upfront that dates can shift at short notice. Worth a quick check on the week you're going rather than assuming it's on as usual.
