What it’s like
A live music venue with proper gigs, a Sunday morning kids' show called Mosh Tots, and a bar and garden anyone can wander into without a ticket.
This is a gig venue first, so most nights it's an adult crowd and a proper sound system. But Sunday mornings flip that entirely with Mosh Tots, a family-friendly show built for kids, and Saturday and Sunday afternoons are generally family-friendly too. Outside of that, under-16s can come to shows but need a responsible adult with them, and 16 and 17 year olds have to leave once the performance ends, wristbands and all. It's a bit of a faff to keep track of, but it means the evening shows stay properly grown-up while the daytime slots are genuinely built for families.
You don't need a ticket to just turn up for the bar and garden, even on a night when the show upstairs is sold out. High chairs and baby-changing are there if you've got a little one in tow, and the pizza kitchen fires up Friday and Saturday evenings, Sunday lunchtime, and on any show night. Everything on the food side is vegetarian or vegan with some gluten-free options, which is worth knowing if that's not usually your default.
For kids who actually want to make music rather than just watch it, there are Band Clubs running lessons for ages 8 to 18, and five rehearsal studios you can hire by the hour if an older kid's got a band of their own. Birthday parties happen here too, including Mosh Tots parties for the younger crowd.
One genuine catch: it is cashless throughout, so leave the coins at home and bring a card. There's no on-site parking either, though three Merseyrail stations and the bus station are all within half a mile, so getting here without a car is straightforward. The first-floor workshop space isn't step-free yet, though a lift is apparently in the pipeline, and the ground floor itself is fully accessible with pre-arranged wheelchair seating available.
