What it’s like
Sixty minutes locked in a themed room at Haymarket, cracking codes and safes to beat the clock as a team.
You get an hour in the room, working through puzzles and codes with whoever you've roped in to play. Ocean's Escape puts you through a casino heist, cracking safes and raiding slot machines, and it's the one on the ground floor, so it's the option if anyone in your group can't manage stairs. Carnival of Curiosities and 8 Years Later are both down in the basement, one a carnival-themed puzzle room, the other a post-virus lab scenario, and neither is reachable if you're using a wheelchair.
This isn't one to bring the younger kids to. The site is upfront that under-10s will likely find the puzzles too demanding, and anyone under 16 still needs an adult in the room with them. Realistically this is one for older kids and teens who fancy a proper brain-bender rather than a family activity for the whole crew.
The pricing rewards a bigger group, which feels a bit like being punished for only having a pair of you. Two people pay £30 each, three brings it to £28 a head, four to £26, five to £24, and a full team of six gets it down to £23 each. Ocean's Escape and 8 Years Later cap out at five players, while Carnival of Curiosities takes up to six. Booking ahead is essential, and they ask you to allow ninety minutes in total, the hour in the room plus time either side for the briefing and the chat afterwards.
Parking is the one genuine faff here. Dalry Road itself is a no-go for parking. Coming by train is a lot less hassle, it's about two minutes' walk up Dalry Road from Haymarket Station.
