What it’s like

Weekly ballet, tap and modern theatre classes in north Cardiff, starting from age 2 in Tiny Ballet.

Tiny Ballet is where most start, a Saturday morning class for 2 to 4 year olds built around imagination and play rather than strict positions. From around 4.5, or once they hit reception, children can move into RAD Ballet, ISTD Primary Modern and creative movement, with ISTD Tap open from age 3. Nobody needs experience walking in, and the school is upfront that every child progresses at their own pace, which takes the pressure off the first few weeks.

Classes run at Pontprennau Primary School and at Livsey Scout Hall near Llanishen train station, both with their own parking, and Pontprennau has a lift up to the studio if that matters for your visit. Keener dancers can work towards RAD and ISTD exams, which the school says come with a 100% pass rate, though they're pitched as encouraged rather than compulsory. There's also an adult ballet class on Monday evenings if you fancy joining in yourself, no beginners turned away.

Rather than committing on day one, new students get a two-week paid taster, joining in as a normal class member with no pressure to continue afterwards. It's a sensible way to test whether your child takes to it, or whether Saturday mornings are better spent elsewhere. One thing to flag if your child already dances elsewhere: En Pointe won't take them on without agreement between both schools first, so it's not a place to run alongside another class without asking.

Plan your visit

What age can my child start?

Tiny Ballet takes them from age 2, on Saturday mornings. Tap can start from 3, and RAD Ballet and Modern Theatre from around 4.5 or reception age.

Does my child need any dance experience?

No, every class is built for complete beginners as well as those with a bit of background.

How does the taster session work?

It's a two-week paid taster, booked through the website or by contacting Miss Danielle directly. Your child joins in as a normal student, then you decide together whether to continue.

Where are classes held and is there parking?

Pontprennau Primary School and Livsey Scout Hall near Llanishen train station, both with on-site parking. Pontprennau also has a lift to the studio.

Do you prepare children for exams?

RAD and ISTD exam classes are on offer with a 100% pass rate, though exams are optional rather than expected.

Can my child join if they already go to another dance school?

Only with agreement between both schools first. En Pointe's view is that mixing teaching methods can hold a child back, so it's better raised directly with them.
