Drummohr Camping & Glamping Site
WHERE
Musselburgh
What it’s like
A camping and glamping site near the Forth shoreline with a playground, sand pit and an easy cycle route into Edinburgh.
Pitch a tent or bag a glamping pod and you're right by the John Muir Way, a flat traffic-free route that follows the shoreline for about six miles into Edinburgh. Bring the bikes and it's an actual way to get somewhere, not just a loop round the field. There's a playground with a sand pit on site for the days you don't fancy the ride, and nearby beaches for the classic bucket-and-spade stuff.
It's open all year, which is unusual for a camping site, and tents are welcome whatever the season, though winter arrivals need to be in by 7pm. Arrival and departure times are fairly generous for tents and touring pitches (1pm to 9pm in, 10am out), a bit tighter for lodges. Worth knowing there's a quiet policy after 10:30pm, so if you've got a toddler who goes down early, this is one site that actually backs you up on it.
Getting into Edinburgh without a car is straightforward: a bus stop five minutes away runs into Princes Street, or it's a 20-minute walk to Wallyford station for a 10-minute train to Waverley. Handy if you fancy a day in the city without packing up the whole campsite.
One thing to flag if you're bringing a wheelchair or a bulky buggy: the site has gravel paths and grass, so it's mixed going in places. And if you're planning a group trip, you'll need to speak to them first rather than just booking a block of pitches.
