What it’s like

Montessori-style loose parts play for babies and toddlers, indoors and out, with two-hour sessions in Blyth.

This one's built around the very small end of things: babies who aren't walking yet, toddlers finding their feet, and preschoolers up to six. The play is Montessori and loose parts inspired, so think open-ended activities and furniture set at different heights rather than a big plastic frame to climb. There's an indoor area and an outdoor one too, which gives you somewhere to go if the inside room feels a bit much for a wriggly one.

You book a 30-minute arrival slot but get two hours from it, with sessions starting at 9:15, 11:15 or 1:30pm, Tuesday to Friday. That's a fairly generous stretch for a session with a baby, long enough for a feed, a play and a meltdown recovery without watching the clock too hard. Booking's required rather than optional, so this isn't a turn-up-and-see kind of visit.

Pricing is broken down by exactly who's coming: a non-walking baby is £4.50, a walking child £7.50, and if you've got a sibling over 12 months along for the ride that's another £4.50. Twins are £2 each, which is a nice touch, and an adult bringing a baby under 4 months in only pays £1.50. It adds up if you're bringing more than one child, but the age limit is genuinely open, so a newborn and a six-year-old could both find something to do here on the same visit.

There's a ramp in and a wheelchair-friendly bathroom, and the site makes a point of having resources and furniture at varying heights for accessibility. Parking is on-site but shared and gets busy at peak times, with a bigger car park near Farmfoods and B&M a short walk away if you're unlucky with timing. Birthday parties run here too, with a £30 deposit to hold the date and the rest due on the day.
