What it’s like

Glow in the dark ten pin bowling with air hockey, arcade games and American pool to fill the wait between frames.

The lanes glow in the dark, which is the bit that'll get mentioned on the way home, and a game for six bowlers takes about an hour, so it's a proper afternoon rather than a quick stop. While you wait your turn there's air hockey, arcade games and American pool to soak up the spare minutes, which is handy if you've got a mix of ages who bowl at very different speeds.

Pricing is a bit of a maze. A single game is £7.50 for an adult and £6.50 for a junior, but two games work out cheaper per frame at £14 and £12. If you fall into one of the discount groups, students, seniors or service users, there are set times where it drops to £4 a game, which is worth knowing if you can be flexible about when you go. Anyone under 18 needs a responsible adult with them after 8pm, so plan your visit around that if you're bowling as a family in the evening.

Food's sorted on site across a few different spots, from a pizzeria to a bistro, and they're firm that you can't bring your own food or drink in. The Bowl 'n' Bite package bundles two games with a meal for £24.50 a head, or £19.50 for the mini version, which saves faffing about working out separate costs. They'll rent you bowling shoes at no extra cost, though heels, sandals and wedges are out, and if you've turned up without socks there are trainer socks to buy.

Birthday parties get their own hour of bowling plus a meal and party bag, from £12.95 a head for juniors and £14.95 for teens, with a private party room at £50 on top if you want your own space. Worth noting the bowling vouchers for parties only run Tuesday to Thursday, so a weekend party works differently.
