What it’s like
Weekly cooking classes in north west Leeds where kids from 2 to 17 make pizzas, cupcakes and cheesecake in hands-on sessions.
The point isn't watching, it's doing. Kids get their hands into pizza dough, decorate their own cupcakes, whip up cheesecake and even make edible necklaces, all while picking up proper techniques rather than just following a recipe card. Minis classes take the 2 to 5s on Saturday mornings, 10am to 11:15am, and if your child's under 5 you'll need to stay in the room with them. Juniors covers age 5 to 11, and once they're past 5 you can drop and go if you'd rather.
Academy classes for the 11 to 17s run Thursday evenings, 6:30pm to 8:15pm, and cost more than the younger groups, £20 against £12 for Minis and Juniors. There's a fortnightly Home Ed class on Wednesday afternoons too, 1:45pm to 3:00pm, if term-time timings don't suit. Workshops sit at the £20 mark as well. Prices do vary a bit by term and class type, so treat £12 and £20 as the starting points rather than the whole story.
Classes run as an ongoing weekly thing rather than a fixed course, so your child can join partway through a term if there's space, and gets popped on a waiting list if not. New customers get buy one get one free on the first two classes, which is a decent way to try both a sweet and a savoury session before committing properly. Booking's needed either way, there's no turning up on spec.
If allergies are a factor, it's worth knowing they can't promise an environment entirely free of things like gluten and nuts. They'll ask about allergies when you book and send over a form to talk it through, so it's not ignored, just not guaranteed. Birthday parties are also on offer, either at your house or a venue of your choosing, with cooking and non-cooking options adapted to the age and size of the group.
