What it’s like

A community centre and café with music sessions for kids, a play corner, and a youth room with table tennis and Wii.

This is more community hub than dedicated kids' venue, and that's worth knowing before you turn up expecting a soft play. There's a weekly Musical Communication session aimed at children, plus a play corner for younger ones to potter about in while you're there for something else. Older kids get a proper youth room with table tennis, pool, a Wii and a Playstation, which is the bit they'll actually remember if they're past the toddler stage.

The centre runs a full timetable alongside the children's stuff, dance sessions, strength and balance classes, chair yoga, wellbeing walks, knit and natter, craft groups, a book club and cooking classes. It means the place is busy with a proper mix of ages through the week, not just families, which some parents will like and others might find a bit odd if they were picturing somewhere just for the kids.

The café only opens Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, while the centre itself runs Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4pm. So if you fancy a coffee while the kids are in the play corner, you'll need to time it for one of those three café days rather than turning up on a Monday and finding it shut.

They do birthday parties and have party rooms if you want to book the space out, and there's a picnic area too if you'd rather bring your own food than rely on café hours. Group bookings are also on offer, so it's worth thinking of this as somewhere you organise a visit around rather than just drop into.

What can kids actually do there?

There's a weekly Musical Communication session for children, a play corner, and a youth room with table tennis, pool, Wii and Playstation for older ones.

When's the café open?

Wednesday to Friday, 9am to 3pm. The centre itself is open Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 4pm, but the café keeps shorter days.

Can we book a birthday party there?

Yes, they've got party rooms and do birthday parties, plus group bookings if you want to organise something bigger.

Is it just for kids?

The timetable's full of adult sessions too, dance, chair yoga, strength and balance classes, knit and natter and a book club, so it's a proper mixed-age community centre rather than a kids-only spot.
