What it’s like

A one-hour puzzle mission for teams, with a game host feeding you clues as the clock runs down.

You get sixty minutes locked into a fictional scenario with your team, working through puzzles and cryptic clues to get out before time runs up. A host is watching and feeding you hints if you stall, and you get team photos sent over the next day as proof you made it (or didn't). Budget 80 to 90 minutes total once you count the briefing and getting settled, so it's a decent chunk of an afternoon rather than something you squeeze in on the way to somewhere else.

The site is upfront that under-nines might find the puzzles a stretch, and anyone under 16 needs an adult on their team. That tracks: this is proper logic and teamwork stuff, not a toddler soft play substitute, even though the official age range starts at 2. For an older group, a difficult mission like Revenge of the Sheep or cQ:ORIGENES is the one to save for a second visit once you've done a beginner room.

Prices move around depending on when you go: £31.99 off-peak for the standard mission, £36.99 at peak times, and £39.99 for the longer IAMAI mission which needs 4 to 8 players. There's no refund if you cancel, only rescheduling, and turning up more than 15 minutes late gets your session cut short or refused outright. Food and drink aren't allowed in the briefing area or the rooms themselves, and if you fancy a drink after, it's capped at two before the game and one after unless you've booked private space.

Birthday parties get their own package from £31.99 a head, with a function space and party bags, plus a fridge magnet for whoever's celebrating. It's a ten-minute walk from King's Cross and St Pancras, so easy enough to tack onto a day in that part of London.

Plan your visit

How much does it cost?

£31.99 off-peak for the standard mission, £36.99 at peak times. The longer IAMAI mission is £39.99 and needs 4 to 8 players.

Do we need to book?

Booking is required, done through their calendar where you pick date, time and mission. You can ask them to hold a room for up to a week without paying if you're still coordinating a group.

How long does a visit take?

The game itself is 60 minutes, but budget 80 to 90 minutes total with the briefing and settling in.

Is it suitable for young kids?

The official age range is 2 to 99, but the site itself says under-nines may find it a challenge. Anyone under 16 needs an adult on their team.

What happens if we're late?

More than 15 minutes late and your session gets shortened or you might be refused entry. They ask you to arrive 10 minutes before your slot.

Can we cancel or change our booking?

No refunds because it's a live experience, but rescheduling is possible if you contact the team.

Which mission should we pick?

PLAN52 and Operation BlackSheep suit beginners. Revenge of the Sheep and cQ:ORIGENES are for veterans aged 14 and up, and IAMAI is the longer option needing 4 to 8 players.

Will bookings be mixed with other groups?

Every mission is a private booking. clueQuest doesn't combine players from different bookings into one room.

Can we add more people after booking?

If there's room in your slot or another room free. Otherwise you pay for extra players on arrival.

Do you do birthday parties?

Packages start at £31.99 a head for 1 to 2 rooms, rising to £46.99 for 3 or more, with a function space, party bags and a fridge magnet for the birthday person. Party bags can be added for £5.

How do we get there?

It's about a 10-minute walk from King's Cross and St Pancras International, so easy to reach by train or tube.
