What it’s like
Self-catering cabins in 75 acres of Devon woodland, with forest school for kids and a 20-minute walk down to Wembury Bay.
This is a cabin-in-the-woods stay rather than a resort with a splash pool and a kids' club timetable. The draw is the valley itself, 75 acres of it, with woodland paths to wander and cabins tucked among the trees rather than lined up in rows. Forest School runs for children aged 4 to 13, mixing nature exploration with curriculum activities, and it's open to non-residents too, so you could book it as a one-off even if you're not staying over.
Wembury Bay is a 20-minute walk from the cabins, which is close enough for a proper beach day without needing the car, though you'll want to factor that walk into how much you're carrying. Each cabin has its own kitchen (cooker, fridge, microwave, pans, the lot) so you're cooking rather than relying on a restaurant, because there isn't one on site. There's a shop in the main office for essentials, beach toys and dog treats, but for a proper meal out you're heading off site.
The hilly setting is lovely to look at and a genuine faff if mobility is an issue: only a few cabins work for wheelchair users, and the same steps that make the valley feel wild can also stop online deliveries reaching your door. Worth flagging your needs when you book rather than after. Stays run to a two-night minimum, check-in's from 3pm, and dogs are welcome, up to two, on leads, for a small charge.
Wi-fi is free in every cabin if the woods start to feel a bit too remote by evening, and there's EV charging on site if you've come electric. It suits families happy to self-cater and spend their days outdoors rather than those wanting entertainment laid on.
