Can You Escape
BEST FOR
Ages 5+
WHERE
York
What it’s like
Lock yourselves in a themed room and solve your way out in an hour, with two scenarios to pick from.
You've got sixty minutes to crack the puzzles and get out, choosing between Operation Lone Eagle and Operation Contagion. It's not actually locked, an agent briefs you first and you can walk out any time, but nobody wants to be the one who taps out. Rooms take up to six people, so if your gang is bigger than that you're booking more than one room.
Five is the stated minimum age, and the site's honest that under-tens can struggle with some of the puzzles, though they mention plenty of sharp five-year-olds have cracked it. Anyone under sixteen needs an adult in the room with them, which is fair enough given how fiddly some of these puzzle rooms get.
Turn up sharp. You're asked to arrive no more than five minutes before your slot, and if you're more than fifteen minutes late they can't fit you in at all, ten minutes late and you lose some of your hour. Book online in advance rather than hoping to walk in, and budget fifteen minutes after your session for the debrief, so the whole visit runs closer to ninety minutes than sixty.
One thing to flag for the York branch: it's up two flights of stairs with no lift, so it won't work if anyone in your party uses a wheelchair.

Plan your visit
How long does a session actually take?
The game itself is a maximum of 60 minutes, but they ask you to arrive up to 5 minutes early and stay 15 minutes after for the debrief.
What age is it suitable for?
Five is the minimum, though the site says under-tens can find the puzzles tough. An adult has to be in the room for anyone under 16.
Do we need to book ahead?
Sessions are booked online rather than turning up on spec. Arrive within your window too, as more than 15 minutes late and they can't fit you in.
Is the York venue wheelchair accessible?
No, it's up two flights of stairs with no lift, so it isn't accessible for wheelchair users.
