What it’s like

A free park built around a lake, with a big adventure play area and a flat path all the way round for buggies and wheelchairs.

Thirty pieces of play equipment is a proper claim, and two of the climbing frames top four metres, so this isn't the sort of park you nip into for ten minutes. It's free to get in, which makes it an easy default when you can't face paying for a soft play session and just want somewhere with enough kit to hold a child's attention for a while.

The lake is the other half of the day. A path runs the whole way round it, level enough for buggies and wheelchairs, with seating and shelters if you need to stop and referee an argument or just sit down. It's been restored with wildlife and plant life along the water and stream, so it's worth building in time to slow down and actually look, rather than treating it as a route march between the play equipment and the car.

Beyond the main frames there are community glades dotted through the park, play dens, bug hotels, bird boxes, the sort of thing that turns a walk into a proper hunt if your kids are the type who like finding things rather than just climbing them. There's a fitness trail too, which is more use to the adults doing laps while the children are occupied on the frames.

It suits a free-range afternoon rather than a tightly timed one. Bring a picnic mentality, dress for the weather since it's all outdoors, and let the lake path and the glades soak up the time once the climbing frames have been conquered.

How much does it cost?

Nothing, it's free to enter.

Is it suitable for a toddler as well as older kids?

The play area has around 30 pieces of equipment including two climbing frames over four metres, so there's plenty for older kids to get stuck into, and the lake path and glades give younger ones something gentler to explore.

Is the path around the lake buggy and wheelchair friendly?

Yes, it's an accessible pathway right around the lake with seating and shelters along the way.

Do we need to book?

No booking, just turn up.
