Victoria Park
WHERE
Haywards Heath
What it’s like
A splash pad, playground, skate park and football pitches all in one open park, a short walk from the station.
There's a proper spread of things going on here. Younger kids gravitate to the playground and the splash pad, while the skate park and football pitches pull in the ones who want something more physical. There's also outdoor table tennis and tennis courts if you fancy bringing a racket along, which is a nice extra for a park that could easily have just been swings and a slide.
Worth knowing straight away though: the splash pad is closed for the season at the moment, so if that's the main draw for you, it's not going to be running right now. The rest of the park still works fine without it, and the skate park and football pitches don't care about the time of year.
It's the sort of park that suits a real mix of ages precisely because there's so much to split off and do. A toddler can potter about the playground while an older sibling has a go on the skate ramps, and you're not all fighting over the same bit of tarmac. There's a café on site for when everyone needs refuelling, and toilets too, so you're not planning your visit around a mad dash home.
Getting there is straightforward. There's pay and display parking on Haywards Road West, buses stop right outside on South Road, and it's about a ten minute walk from Haywards Heath train station if you fancy leaving the car behind altogether.
