What it’s like

Locked in a room with clues to crack and an hour on the clock, with under 7s playing free.

You get an hour, a locked room and a pile of puzzles that need solving before the clock runs out. It's the classic escape room format: find the clues, crack the codes, get the door open. Teams of 3 to 4 are the sweet spot according to the site, though they'll take anywhere from 2 up to 5 in a room.

Under 16s are welcome but the puzzles are built with adults in mind, so any under-16 group needs one adult per room minimum. That's worth knowing before you plan a birthday round this, since it's not a case of dropping the kids off and going for a coffee. Under 7s do get in free, which is a nice touch if you've got a younger one tagging along with older siblings.

Some rooms are played in low light, which adds to the atmosphere but is worth flagging if anyone in your group isn't keen on the dark. The site is upfront that it isn't wheelchair accessible, with 13 steps up and a narrow 66cm door, and that it's not recommended for legally or totally blind players unless accompanied. Deaf and hard of hearing players are catered for with an on-screen clue system, and partially sighted or colourblind players can ask for extra help or puzzle skips on the day.

It's open every day from 10am to 10pm, right in the city centre near Lime Street and the Sir Thomas Street bus stop, with plenty of on-street and multi-storey parking nearby. They'll take on birthdays, hen and stag parties, anniversaries and the rest, and apparently even the odd proposal has happened in one of these rooms.

Plan your visit

How long does a game last?

An hour, once the clock starts. Turn up with a bit of spare time either side for the briefing and getting sorted.

Is it suitable for children?

Under 16s can play but need one adult per room accompanying them, and the puzzles are aimed more at adults than kids. Under 7s go free.

How many people can play together?

Rooms take a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 5, with 3 to 4 said to be the ideal number.

Is there parking nearby?

Yes, there's a good amount of on-street and multi-storey parking close by, plus Sir Thomas Street bus stop right outside and Lime Street station five minutes away.

Can it be booked for a party or special occasion?

Birthdays, hen and stag dos, anniversaries and engagement parties are all catered for, and they mention proposals happening in the rooms too.

Is it accessible for wheelchair users?

There are 13 steps up to the centre and a narrow 66cm door, so it isn't wheelchair accessible.
