What it’s like
Lead an alpaca on a proper walk, then get stuck in with hand feeding back at the farm.
You're not just gawping through a fence here. Kids get a lead rope and walk an alpaca themselves, then spend time back on the farm feeding and fussing over them properly. It's £30 per alpaca, so work out how many you actually need before you book, one alpaca per child is going to add up fast if there's a few of you.
The walk itself runs 80 to 90 minutes, plus the farm time either side, so this eats a good chunk of an afternoon rather than being a quick stop. Under-12s can't take sole charge of an alpaca, an adult has to be on hand throughout, which makes sense with an animal that size but means it's not a drop-the-kids-off kind of visit. Winter walks go out at 1pm, summer ones at 2pm, and there's no walking on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays at all, so your day options are already narrowed before you start picking a date.
Booking's essential and it's non-refundable, which stings if the weather turns or someone comes down with something the night before. Summer dates get released at the end of January and winter ones at the end of September, so if you want a particular Saturday you'll want to be watching for the calendar drop rather than trying your luck in June.
There's also a wedding option, alpacas as ring-bearers or guest greeters, walked and hand-fed as part of the day, tailored to what you want. Not the obvious school-holiday outing, but if you've got an animal-mad seven-year-old who's done every city farm going, this is the step up from petting through a fence.
