What it’s like
A comic sci-fi escape room in Hove where you puzzle your way out as a team, with a pub and beer garden downstairs to wait in first.
You are locked in a themed room with a sci-fi storyline and a host who stays in character, and the job is to solve puzzles as a team to get out. Most games take 2 to 7 players, with an 8-player option on one specific game, so check which room suits your group size before you book. Nobody is actually trapped: if anyone gets twitchy about small spaces, you can step out and go back in whenever you're ready, which takes the edge off for anyone unsure.
There is no minimum age and a baby is fine as long as someone holds them for the whole game, but the puzzles are pitched at secondary school age and above, so younger kids do best as extra hands in a bigger family team rather than solving it solo. Under-18s need an adult with them throughout, and licensing rules mean they can't stay on the premises after 8pm.
It's £29 for a standard game with 2 to 8 players or £99 for a family booking of up to 4, and you should turn up 15 minutes early to wait downstairs in the bar. That bar does food too, an American-style menu of burgers and sandwiches, with a discount for anyone playing the game, and there's a beer garden if the weather's playing along. Allow about 75 minutes in total once you count the introduction, the game itself and the debrief and photo afterwards.
Getting in is level at the front door, though the double doors can be stiff, and there's an accessible toilet downstairs. The games themselves are up on the first floor with several doors and stairs and no lift, which is worth knowing if that's going to be a problem for anyone in your group. There's no parking on site, so it's on-street parking on Holland Road or the car park on Norton Road, about 10 to 15 minutes on foot.
