What it’s like

Untutored life drawing sessions in Manchester, with poses that stretch from quick warm-ups to a longer final pose.

This is life drawing without a tutor standing over you. You get a run of poses that start short and get progressively longer, a break after the first hour, and two hours total to fill a sketchbook or just get your eye back in. There's no instruction, so it suits someone who wants the model and the quiet, not a lesson.

Tickets are £14.99 for Paper & Board, which gets you exactly that plus a clip, or £19.99 for All Material if you want pencils, charcoal, pens, pastels, a rubber and sharpener handed to you on arrival. The gap between the two prices makes sense once you think about lugging a full art kit across Manchester on a weeknight. Sessions run Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.

You don't have to book, but the site is upfront that sessions tend to sell out, so turning up on spec is a gamble rather than a plan. There's also a pastel paint and sip workshop listed alongside the drawing sessions, if you fancy something with a glass in hand instead of strict poses.

Nobody's marking your work here and nobody's teaching technique, which is either exactly what you want after a day at a desk or a mild letdown if you were hoping for pointers. Either way, the format is consistent enough that you know what you're walking into.

Plan your visit

Do I need to book ahead?

You don't have to, but sessions tend to sell out, so a drop-in isn't guaranteed a spot. Booking ahead is the safer bet if you've got your evening set aside.

Are the sessions tutored?

No tutor. The session starts with a rundown of the format, short poses building up to longer ones, then a break after the first hour.

What's included in the ticket price?

The Paper & Board ticket gets you paper, a board and a clip for £14.99. The All Material ticket is £19.99 and adds pencils, charcoal, pens, pastels, a rubber and sharpener.

How long does a session last?

Two hours, with a break after the first hour once the poses have built up in length.
