What it’s like

Carp fishing by the day or night on a Solihull lake, with tickets running from a few hours up to a full 24.

This is a carp fishing lake, and that's the whole day out: you pick a peg, get your rod out, and see what you can tempt up from the water. Everything gets put back afterwards, no exceptions, so it's about the catch and the photo rather than a fish supper.

Tickets are banded by time rather than a flat day rate. An 8 hour day ticket is £14.95, or £10.50 if you're going in the junior or senior bracket. Want longer? A 9 to 16 hour ticket is £18.95, and the top option covers 17 to 24 hours at £25.95, which includes what you need for fishing into the night. An extra rod on any ticket is £2, which mounts up if you've got two of you sharing a peg and both want a line in.

There's a café on site and toilets, and it's listed as wheelchair accessible, which is a relief for a venue that's basically mud and water. One genuinely annoying thing: card and contactless only, no cash accepted, so don't turn up assuming you can pay with whatever's in your pocket. Some dates the lake is fully booked for matches, so a session that would normally be relaxed and half-empty can suddenly be a competition day instead.
