What it’s like
Evening and weekend martial arts classes for ages five and up, with a £15 taster in striking, grappling or MMA before you commit.
This is a first-floor training gym, not a play centre, so the visit is a class rather than a drop-in. Children's BJJ runs alongside the adult timetable, and the site lists kids' Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from age five. Adults get the wider menu: MMA, San Da kickboxing, Wing Chun self defence, boxing, fitness and conditioning, plus open mat sessions where you roll with whoever turns up.
The way in is the taster. £15 buys you one striking, grappling or MMA class, and there's a taster BJJ, MMA or Kickboxing class at the same price. That's an intro session, not a day ticket, so don't expect to hang about afterwards. It's a sensible price for trying a discipline before signing up, and cheaper than most people assume a martial arts trial costs.
Timing is the thing to plan around. Weeknights run 6.30pm to 10pm, Thursday starts at 5.30pm, Friday finishes earlier at 9.30pm, and weekends are 9.30am to 3.30pm. Classes run to the published opening times, so a Monday session means the full 6.30 to 10 stretch. If your child is at school, that means evenings or weekends only, and the office phone is only answered between 6.30pm and 10pm, which is a faff if you're trying to sort something in the daytime.
Once you're past the taster, monthly memberships come in Starter, Accelerator or Ultimate tiers and cover open mat, BJJ, kickboxing, MMA and boxing. Booking is required, and new joiners can get up to three months discount by calling. There are toilets on site and the gym has free weights, equipment and heavy bags if you want to train on your own steam as well.
