What it’s like

Weekly camping, hiking, abseiling and canoeing sessions run by volunteers, split by age from Beavers up to Scouts.

Kids here get stuck into proper outdoor stuff: camping, hiking, swimming, abseiling, cycling, canoeing. There's also the regular week to week mix of games, team challenges and just messing about with mates, which is honestly the bit that keeps them coming back once the novelty of abseiling wears off.

It's split by age. Beaver Colony meets Monday evenings for the youngest group, Cub Pack is Tuesday early evening, and Scout Troop follows later that same Tuesday for the older ones. That back to back Tuesday timing is handy if you've got kids in both groups and don't fancy two separate car journeys across the week.

Subs are £10 a month, which is decent value given what they're getting for it. Camps and bigger events cost extra on top, though they say these are often subsidised so more kids can go along. One thing to flag: the hall doesn't have fully accessible facilities, so it's worth thinking about if that matters for your family.
