What it’s like

Carve your own spoon, spatula or bowl over an open fire at a working farm site just outside Bristol.

You spend the session with a knife in hand, working a green branch down into a spoon, a spatula or a bowl, the traditional way, outdoors, with a fire going for cooking rather than just show. It's proper hands-on stuff, the kind of craft that takes concentration rather than a quick go and a photo, and the site talks about meals cooked over the fire as part of the day too.

Bridge Farm itself is part of the charm and part of the faff. It's semi-rural and genuinely tucked away, hard to find the first time even with directions, and they're firm that you should not attempt to drive up into the farm itself. Free parking is on Averay Road opposite the entrance or on the road under the M32, so build in a few extra minutes to walk in.

Accessibility needs thinking about before you book. There's no accessible toilet on site, and the alternative entrance is a flat 100m dirt track rather than a proper path, so it's worth getting in touch directly if you have specific access needs, which they invite you to do. Beginners' courses have a sliding scale of discounted places for anyone who needs them, which is a decent touch for a craft session that could otherwise feel like a one-off treat.

Bookings can be cancelled or rearranged up to 14 days out without a fuss, though closer to the date it's only in exceptional circumstances. If the course itself gets cancelled, they'll move you to another date or refund you in full. Gift vouchers are sold directly from their shop and double as a way to book someone else onto a course, which is handy if you're arranging it as a present rather than for yourself.

Plan your visit

Is there parking?

Free parking on Averay Road opposite the farm entrance, or on the road under the M32. Do not drive up into the farm itself.

Is the site accessible?

It's a semi-rural farm site with limited accessibility and no accessible toilet currently. There's a flat alternative entrance via a 100m dirt track, and they'll discuss specific access needs if you contact them.

Can I cancel or change my booking?

Yes, up to 14 days before the course with no issue. Inside 14 days, changes are only made in exceptional circumstances.

What happens if the class is cancelled by them?

You'll be moved to another available class or given a full refund, and they'll let you know as soon as they can.

Can I book this as a gift?

Gift vouchers are sold through their shop and can be used to book a course directly. You can also book on someone else's behalf by adding their name at checkout.

Is it easy to get to without a car?

There's a bike rack in the cobbled courtyard and a bus stop near the farm entrance, so it's manageable by bike or bus.
