Pottery Painting & Craft Studios in Newcastle
Newcastle has a decent little cluster of studios for a rainy afternoon with a paintbrush. The Pottery Experience, close to the centre, starts from £10 for picking a mug, unicorn or plant pot, then they glaze and fire it while you go off and do something else. Soul Ceramiks, a touch further out, is appointment only from £38 and does proper wheel work alongside painting, so you can turn out a ghost incense holder or a pumpkin tealight. Splatter Art Studio, right in the centre, is a different thing entirely: 45 minutes of guided splatter and pour painting on a big canvas. For younger kids or a first go, The Pottery Experience is the cheapest and most flexible, with food on site and space for a party. Splatter Art Studio suits ages 7 to 13 who fancy something messier and faster than sitting over glaze. If you want to try the wheel yourself, book ahead for Soul Ceramiks and bring the car, parking's free there.
