Aquariums & Sea Life in Leeds

There's no big Leeds aquarium as such, more a scatter of fish tanks and animal days out worth a drive. Ferrybridge Aquatics out at Knottingley is a fish shop with around 500 species to browse, a quiet wander rather than a big day out. Further afield in Hyde, Swell UK is a garden and aquatic supplies shop with tropical, coldwater and marine fish alongside reptiles and amphibians. In Rotherham, Pet Station lets kids look at guinea pigs, hamsters, fish tanks and iguanas for free. For a fuller day, Wentworth Garden Centre in Rotherham is free to wander and adds a family farm and adventure playground to its pets and aquatics centre. A drive out to York gets you Askham Bryan Wildlife & Conservation Park, from £5.50, where you can feed meerkats and lemurs and go behind the scenes with otters. Furthest out, Helmsley's National Centre for Birds of Prey (from £11.50) has three flying demos a day across 300 acres, best saved for when you fancy the longer trip.
