Galleries & Exhibitions in Glasgow

Glasgow does well for galleries that don't mind children looking rather than touching. Gallery of Modern Art on Royal Exchange Square is free and about as central as it gets, good for a rainy afternoon among contemporary shows. Street Level Photoworks in the Merchant City is also free, no ticket needed, just photography and lens-based art Tuesday to Sunday. Kelvingrove is the big one, free entry, a cafe, baby change and a daily organ recital alongside the art and animals. For toddlers, Kelvingrove has the space and facilities to make a whole visit of it. Older kids who like a quieter wander suit Annan Gallery or David Dale Gallery in Bridgeton. If your child fancies making rather than just looking, Project Ability runs Saturday classes for ages 8 to 25 from £95, including printmaking for disabled kids. Glasgow Sculpture Studios is worth knowing about too, less a polished gallery and more a working studio with drawing sessions. Most of these sit within a couple of kilometres of the centre, so a day of gallery-hopping is easy on foot.
