A free display at Kelvingrove exploring the intriguing story of the Chevalière d'Eon.

This display in Kelvingrove's Fragile Art Gallery looks at the life of the Chevalière d'Eon, a historical figure whose story raises questions of identity and gender in the 18th century. It's a small, focused exhibit rather than a big blockbuster show, so it suits visitors who enjoy dipping into lesser-known corners of the collection while exploring the rest of the museum. Entry to Kelvingrove is free, and the display runs for a long stretch from July 2026 through to July 2027, so there's no rush to catch it on a particular day. It's housed within the main museum, which also has 22 other galleries to explore, a café, baby changing facilities and full wheelchair and pram access via lifts, making it easy to combine with a wider family visit.
