What it’s like

A working sculpture studio with drawing sessions and studio visits, not a polished gallery experience.

This is a proper working studio, not a gallery with rope barriers and a gift shop. The learning and engagement programme is open to wider groups, and there's a Sculpture Club running drawing activities alongside studio visits and events that the site says suit all ages. If your kids like watching things get made rather than looking at finished pieces behind glass, this is more that sort of visit.

Reception is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and the workshops run 10am to 5pm the same days. That's a proper weekday-only setup, so it's not one for a spontaneous Saturday and it's closed on public holidays too. Worth building your visit around a weekday if you're planning around school runs or nursery pickup.

If you're thinking about actually using the production facilities rather than just visiting, there's a health and safety induction required first, and you'd need to bring your own hand tools, consumables and PPE, none of which GSS provides. The workshop booking system is also a bit hit and miss at the moment, especially for metal and sometimes wood bookings, so if it won't cooperate online, ringing reception directly gets it sorted.

Parking's free, which is a small mercy in this part of Glasgow, and if you're coming by underground both Cowcaddens and St George's Cross are about a ten minute walk away.

Plan your visit

What are the opening hours?

Reception is Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Workshops run the same days, 10am to 5pm.

Is it open at weekends?

No, it's a weekday operation and closed on public holidays.

Do we need to book ahead?

The booking system for workshops has been unreliable lately, particularly for metal and sometimes wood sessions. If it's playing up, phone reception or email and they'll book you in directly.

Is there parking?

Free parking is available on site.

What can kids actually do there?

There's Sculpture Club for drawing activities, plus studio visits and events the site describes as suitable for all ages.
