Live Music & Gigs in Edinburgh

Live music in Edinburgh mostly means small rooms close together in the centre. St Cecilia's Concert Room is free and hands-on, with a digital guide leading kids through 150-odd historic instruments and the odd mini concert. The Jazz Bar lets accompanied children in for basement sets until 8.30pm, and Stramash is free to get into every night, with a Wednesday ceilidh, though it runs until 3am so it's more an evening plan than a family one. For a proper family outing, look at The Amber Rose or Finnegan's Wake, both pubs with live music where kids are welcome if you're there for food, before 8pm at Amber Rose. Malones works the same way. If it's just the adults, Kitty O'Shea's and La Belle Angele don't take under-18s at all, the latter down staircases in the Cowgate for late-night sets. Leith Arches is one to hire for a party rather than turn up to casually.
