Circus & Street Performance in Brighton
Brighton does circus and cabaret rather than clowns on the pier. Brighton Open Air Theatre puts on outdoor shows from £12 with picnics welcome on the grass, and Komedia Brighton runs a comedy club in the North Laine that is 18+ only. St. Augustine's Arts & Events Centre has a garden for picnics and games alongside its hall, useful if a birthday party is on the cards. For a hands-on circus session with kids, it is a longer trip out to Eastbourne for Sweet Circus, where parties from £135 let them try juggling, aerial hoop, trapeze or silks. Everything else in the centre skews adults only: Ironworks Studios is a drag, burlesque and cabaret venue, and Showlesque and Gamestars is a basement cabaret night with booth seating and a sit-down menu, fancy dress optional. Book ahead for those two, and check whether outdoor shows need a picnic rug before you go.
