What it’s like
A basement comedy and music venue in the North Laine where the comedy club is strictly 18+ only.
This one's for the grown-ups on their own night out rather than a family trip. The Komedia Comedy Club is strictly over-18s, and they mean it: physical ID only, a phone photo won't get you in, so leave the passport at home at your peril.
Shows run across a couple of spaces, with comedy nights generally wrapping up around 10.30pm, music shows held to an 11pm curfew, and club nights running on until 3am. Food is served at most comedy shows in the basement space, though not if you're in the studio, and both spaces have a full bar for wine, beer, spirits and soft drinks if you fancy something non-alcoholic instead.
Booking is all done in advance, there's no paying on the door and no reserving a seat to sort out later. That's a bit of a faff if you're the spontaneous type, and the £2 per ticket booking fee (capped at £12) stings slightly on top, but it does mean you're not queueing at a box office window while the support act warms up. Once you've paid, tickets are non-refundable unless you've added the optional protection at checkout, so it's worth deciding on that before you click buy.
Getting there is straightforward if not entirely stress-free: the mainline station is a seven minute walk and buses stop close by, but parking is the sticking point. On-street parking in North Laine is permit-only, so unless you're a Blue Badge holder using the spaces behind the venue, you're looking at the nearby NCP car park for the evening.
