What it’s like
Walk through Diagon Alley and the Great Hall, stand under a 30ft Basilisk, and have a go on the green screen broomstick.
This is a proper walk-through of the actual sets, not a museum with bits behind glass. You get Diagon Alley, the Great Hall, the Forbidden Forest and Privet Drive, plus a 30ft animatronic Basilisk that's clearly built to make you go "oh" out loud. There's a green screen bit where the kids can have a go on a broomstick, which is the sort of thing they'll be talking about on the drive home more than the actual sets.
It's not a quick pop-in. The tour runs three to four hours, so you want a day where nothing else is planned either side of it. Everything has to be booked ahead with a set date and time slot, no turning up on spec, and once you're parked you can't nip back to the car until you're done, so plan your loo breaks and layers accordingly.
The price does sting a bit. £47 for a child and £58.50 for an adult, or £188 for a family ticket, and that's before you've thought about food. There's a Food Hall and the Dragon Roasted Café on site, and you can add breakfast or dinner packages if you want the full Hogwarts Table experience in the Great Hall. Parking's free, though priority parking is a tenner extra and has to be booked online in advance, not something you can sort on arrival.
Under 5s aren't really catered for age-wise, and while most of the tour is wheelchair friendly, the site is upfront that cobbled streets and some of the original set pieces mean a few areas are tricky to navigate. Free manual wheelchairs are available to borrow if you need one on the day.
